Snapchat 'Cameo' Uses Deepfake to Insert Your Face Into Funny Videos
Snapchat is reportedly testing a new feature to bring together its roster of cool tricks. The feature uses AI-based software to superimpose your confront into existing videos or GIFs to create short clips that can then exist shared online. Called 'Cameo', the new feature will allow users to just take a selfie to create brusk videos that the visitor hopes will become a fun new way to convey an emotion or reaction in Snapchat messages.

The new feature uses technology that'due south like to the artificial neural networks used to create deepfake videos, merely without any of the creepy (and frequently illegal) connotations associated with it. Currently, it only supports a handful of existing short looping video clips, but could be expanded to include more than videos and memes going forward. The feature could also open an additional revenue stream for the company from paid third-party Cameo clips.

In a statement to TechCrunch, the company confirmed that the feature is being tested in some international markets, including France. There's no official ETA for the global launch but yet, but the company says that could happen sooner rather than subsequently. According to Snap, "Cameos aren't ready to take the phase even so, just stay tuned for their global debut soon".

The TechCrunch report says that the Cameo feature can exist activated via the Bitmoji push button in the Snapchat messaging keyboard. The characteristic looks eerily similar to the Chinese deepfake app Zao that recently created a stir after going viral for creating realistic deepfake videos in seconds, using but a selfie.
